History of Asakusa

Asakusa has long been a sacred place for religion, Ieyasu Tokugawa and Yoritomo also prayed at Asakusa Temple. Formerly the east side of Asakusa was in the sea and was used as a port to bring supplies to Edo.As a result, Asakusa became more and more developed, and it became the city where the most people, things and money gathered in Edo. Even then, as a city ahead of its time, it was very crowded, and in 1890 a viewing tower with Japan's first elevator was built. Although it suffered catastrophic damage in the Great Kanto Earthquake and the Tokyo Air Raid, they have recovered with the cooperation of many people and now we are crowded with tourists visiting from Japan and abroad every day.
